TIPS FOR BETTER DIGESTION THIS HOLIDAY SEASON (Reprint)

With rich food and larger company, it is easy to overload your digestive system during the holidays. Here are some six simple tips to enjoy the festivities, without feeling deprived, while maintaining a healthy balance.

1)     Try a digestive elixir at least 15 minutes before a meal.

Have a Lime-Ginger Pizza or Agni Booster. Email me for the Digestive Elixir recipes.

2)     Skip the hors d'oeuvres.

Once food is in your stomach, anything else you eat (until the original food is done digesting) will just sit above your stomach and ferment. This is why when you eat too frequently you get gas and bloating. Hors d’oeuvres are typically served one or two hours before a meal. Skip them and leave the feasting for the main meal.

3)     Give Thanks.

Studies show that appreciating your food, makes the meal more enjoyable. Whether this is a cheer for the chef or saying grace, giving thanks helps a meal taste better.

4)     Slow down and pay attention.

If you can, take breaks from discussion to pay attention to what you are eating. This will help you notice when you are full.

5)     Don’t take seconds.

Enjoy the feast without over-eating. Eating too much is the number one cause of indigestion.

6)    Eat your dessert right after the meal.

You can have your cake and eat it too. Do not wait an hour and then eat it. Go easy on the sweets but enjoy.

have a happy & healthy holiday season!
